Jonah update...

Well.... we have discovered that Jonah has an allergy to regular formula. At his 4 month check-up the dr. was concerned because he was below the lowest weight percentage. So, they told us to come back in two weeks for a weight-check to see if he is gaining weight. So, we decided to try and supplement his diet with a little formula.
I fed him less than an ounce of regular formula and about 10 minutes later he violently threw it all up and broke out in hives and a rash all over again. (He did that a couple months ago, but the Dr. told me he couldn't possibly be allergic to formula). That's why I fed him less than an ounce-- didn't want to take the chance. He started having a little trouble breathing because of all the mucous.

So, Danior and I conducted a little science experiment. We did a skin test using regular formula and soy formula to see how he would react. The spot with the regular formula broke out in a rash, the soy.... rash free. So, he's been drinking soy formula to supplement his other food.

So, at the dr.'s visit this morning we found out that in two weeks he has gained a little more than two pounds... which puts him back on the percentile he was on before. So, it looks like he just wasn't getting enough to eat...poor guy.

Tonight though, we discovered he is not only allergic to regular formula, but to milk also. Rebekah gave him a kiss on the forehead after drinking her milk, and about 10 minutes later, his forehead broke out in an itchy rash. So, now we all have to be careful not to touch him after touching milk, or kiss him if we are like RL and have a milk mustache.

So... a word to those of you out there who see us... make sure you are milk-free before you kiss Jonah or touch him... thanks!!!

Having allergies is no fun at all. Especially with how young he is. That is kind of scary. Good luck! Hopefully he'll outgrow it soon!

I'm watching a little girl that's a year old now and she is allergic to milk, cheese, and eggs. It's tough. Especially when you have another little one that doesn't understand. Catherine loves to eat cheese and will sometimes drop some on the ground. I feel like a crazy person sometimes having to follow after her and make sure she doesn't leave cheese or her milk cup or anything that has milk where Abby can get to it.

Wow! I didn't know they could be allergic to formula, I'm so glad you thought to give him just a bit first! I think the milk kiss on the forehead was the best way to find out the milk allergy! Good job catching those!
