As if life wasn't stressful enough ...

Right now I am listening to a helicopter circle the neighborhood... not an uncommon thing where we live. However, the circumstances around this one hits a little too close to home.

About an hour ago I was sitting on the couch reading a book to RL when I hear people screaming outside followed by a loud bang. A couple minutes later I look out the window to find at least 5 cop cars with no lights on talking to a large group of people that have gathered. The cars pull up to the "main" car and talk for a minute, then speed off with their lights turned off.

A couple minutes ago, I talked to a friend who lives on the street who always happens to know what is going on, and she told me the following:

A girl was walking home from school when she got held-up at gunpoint in front of my building. She only had $5 and that wasn't enough, so the guy started to strangle her. She screamed and a couple guys who happened to be out on the patio in the dark saw what was going on and started screaming at the guy with the gun. He pointed the gun at the girl he was strangling, then shot at the ground (the loud bang I heard). Then he took off running, possibly down my parking lot (which is open because the gate is broken... stupid gate.... because of the rain).

So, I continue to listen to the circling of the helicopter as they try and find the suspect... I know I won't sleep tonight knowing this occured steps from where my family and I were sitting. Since we have lived here, the neighborhood, and our street in particular, has gotten progressively worse. I am now ready to move more than ever.... I just need to find a house in a good neighborhood that is big enough for my family, and cheap enough for us to afford.

Like my title says... as if life was stressfull enough... here is something else to add in to the mix. Please keep my family and our safety in your prayers.... because I AM FREAKING OUT!!!

*** The update: the copter circled for 4 hrs... late into the night. The man supposedly was held-up in a house about a block away from us. The cops brought in search dogs to go in the house and look for him, but he got away. So, now this guy is loose ... great...

Here is the link to the story on the news... they really didn't do it justice. http://www.cbs2.com/video/?id=121546@kcbs.dayport.com

No kidding. I would be freaking out too! I'll pray for you to get at least a little sleep. Enough to have some gusto for tomorrow. Good luck.

Wow. When that happened in front of our apartment and I freaked out, the police were saying that after working here for so many years, it's never been a dangerous area. Now with two incidents in such a short amount of time, "GET US OUT OF HERE!!!"

It is almost like you live in my old Condo complex... I have missed the drama... a little. Not really. I am glad you were all safe.

Between your blog and Brenda's, I'm so glad I don't live near LA. Move up north?

So sad the neighborhood is going downhill. We're glad you're safe.

Time to move to Utah and into the protective bubble of Happy Valley! It's both safe and affordable. And houses are big enough for 6 kids if you want them. j/k

But that is SO freaky!!
